Dear Online Student,
Welcome to the world of distance education. As you'll soon see, it is an environment of endless possibilities. Online learning is fabulous in that it allows those bogged down by life's circumstances the opportunity to pursue their dreams. It allows flexibility that bricks and morter simply do not. It is, in some ways, a revolution.
With all of its benefits, one should not assume that he or she will automatically succeed in this distance learning environment. It is not for everyone. To be a successful online student, one must maintain a specific set of qualities and a high level of achievement. Skills for effective teaching vary between an online and traditional classroom setting as well. Online learning is an entirely new dimension to education. It is here to stay.
Many students appreciate the atonomy that comes with online learning. They feel free to speak out in class and to explore new ideas. For these traditional wall flowers, distance learning is ideal. It releases passion, identifies creativity, and can expand one's mind...
Then, there are jackasses like you.
Please do not assume that because you do not have to look your peers or your instructor in the eye, that you are allowed to act poorly. As long as you are in my class, whether it be in a traditional classroom or online, you will be held accountable. You will treat other students with respect. You will treat me with respect. You will respect yourself. You will respect the learning process.
I am afraid any less will result in your failure - your failure on assignments, your failure in the class. Quite frankly, being a jackass will also likely result in your failure in life.
Sincerely,
B
