Letter (I)

An open letter to myself:

S,

M says, "Life is pain". He is correct. Life is not meant to be stagnant. One may not grow as a person if he or she is not faced with challenges on occasion. It is only by experiencing pain from time to time that one my appreciate the moments of pleasure.

Life is changing a lot right now, as it should. Things are chaotic and a bit overwhelming, and that is okay. You will get through this moment, this day, and this year. Further, you will come out as a better person at the end of it all.

It is fine that you seem unable to solve all of the world's problems. It is okay that you must sometimes say 'no' to others. It is acceptable that you occasionally desire to step back and take care of yourself. It is alright that you may not save everyone, as that is not your purpose. It is understandable that sometimes you are unable to fully express your ideas. It is not necessary that you push yourself to do the same. It is okay to keep some of your thoughts as your own. It is not necessary for you to share all of the dimensions of yourself with others, especially if they have not earned that privilege.

As life changes, you will re-evaluate its different aspects. With life's current challenges, it seems as if loss is on your mind right now. Loss, like pain, is a part of life. Sometimes loss is represented in the form of departed material possessions. Sometimes it is in the form of missed opportunities. Sometimes loss comes in the form of relationships. The thing is, you cannot avoid loss and to try to do the same is foolish. Unfortunately, that knowledge will not make is less painful. It actually probably makes things worse.

For now, you need to know that it is okay that things are not perfect. They were not meant to be, as that would be boring. Instead of dwelling on the imperfections, you should try to focus on the positive. Cherish the moments you have now. Do not wait until they are gone. Things will work themselves out. You will come up with a plan. You will survive. In fact, you will thrive. You are much stronger and more intelligent than you will ever give yourself credit. You have a lot to offer others and many people who rely on you. As you take care of them, you will, in turn, take care of yourself.

For now, share yourself. Smile. Keep thinking. Be you.

Take care,
S
