Thirty

Tadpole,

You are now thirty months old. Counting your development in months seems a bit ridiculous at this point as the numbers increase, but so much changes each day that I am afraid not to chronicle things frequently.

The past month has been one of social engagements, playing, and just sheer survival. Each day, you demonstrate an increased need for independence, yet you rely on Daddy and I so much. It is a challenge to honor your growth while supporting you in a manner that allows you to feel autonomous and valued. It is also really cool to witness you do more and explore your world.

At school, you have spent a lot of time working on your letters, completing art projects, and learning about manners. In fact, this morning on the way to school you talked with me about the importance of taking one's turn. I beamed with pride as you seemed to really 'get' what you said. You also demonstrated insight in that you acknowledged that you do not always choose to mind your manners even though you know you should.

Last week, we celebrated Thanksgiving. In fact, you did so 4 times! First, you had a feast with your friends at school. Ms. J said that when she offered the opportunity to have whipped cream sprayed into one's mouth, you were the only one to run forward. Of course you did. You little stink! We also celebrated the holiday and G and N's and then again at T and J's. Finally, we had Daddy's family over to our house to celebrate, too. We were extra lucky this year, as Daddy had the whole holiday off to spend with us. Further, Aunt K and N spent the holiday weekend at our house, too! You even braved the Black Friday crowds with them. Aunt K reported that you were well-behaved while shopping, but did inquire 'Do they have food at this store?' upon entering Macy's. You definitely prioritize food. Consistently. I guess you're like your Mama in that respect. We both become hangry when we do not eat.

Daddy and I bought you a play kitchen on a whim this month, too. While you likely do not need it, you sure are happy with it. You spend hours 'cooking' and serving all of us as well as your stuffed animals. I also put colored Christmas lights around your closet doors. You call them your 'rainbows' and like to have them on as you fall asleep each night. Speaking of night, you're getting much better about staying in your bed at night. One of my favorite things each day is when you come into my room, walk up to my bed and say, "Morning, Mama! I had a good day nap time!". You're so happy each morning -- so excited to see your brother, Daddy, and me and so happy to get started with your day. It makes my mornings brighter, too. When not cooking in your kitchen or sleeping, most of your time is taken up by doing circle time (with me, brother, and Daddy, of course!) and singing. We do a fair amount of art, baking, and reading when we can, too. We're busy!

The next few weeks are slated to be busy, too. We're working on re-organizing your room, anticipating Santa's arrival, and preparing for the New Year. I anticipate a lot of excitement over the next month and can't wait to share it with you. As always, my little boy, thank you for all that you give to me and your Daddy. We feel so blessed to have you in our lives and cherish it every moment (tantrums and all!).

Love,
Mama
